The calculator
Get your verdict
Three fields are enough. The rest sharpen the estimate.
How it works
Three steps. No sign-up. Your verdict stays on this page.
You enter the basics
Appliance type, age, and the technician's quote. The rest (brand tier, failed part, location) sharpen the estimate but aren't required.
We run the net-present-cost math
Weibull lifespan curves, localized labor rates, energy costs, and repeat-failure risk — all on real NAHB, BLS, and EIA data. No guesswork.
You get a straight answer
Repair it, replace it, or hold off. With the dollar figures, confidence score, and every assumption laid bare so you can decide.
Neutral by design
We don't sell appliances, repairs, or your data. The math is the product.
No lead-capture wall
Your verdict appears instantly on this page. We never hold your answer hostage for an email address.
No ads on your result
The verdict screen is clean. Partner links live at the bottom, plainly labelled, and never influence the math.
Every assumption shown
Discount rate, lifespan curves, labor rates, energy costs — all visible in the provenance panel. You can audit every number.
Honest about uncertainty
When the data can't support a confident verdict, we say so. We'd rather withhold an answer than give you a false one.
Frequently asked questions
Is this really free?
Yes. No sign-up, no paywall, no email gate. The verdict appears instantly on this page. We make money through optional partner links at the bottom of the result — never by holding your answer hostage.
How accurate is the verdict?
We use Weibull lifespan curves fitted to NAHB and InterNACHI data, localized BLS labor rates, and EIA energy costs. Every result includes a confidence score and shows every assumption. When the data can't support a confident answer, we say so.
What if my appliance isn't listed?
We cover the 12 major household appliance types that account for most repair-or-replace decisions. If yours isn't listed, the math won't be accurate — we'd rather not guess.
Do you store my information?
No. Your inputs stay in your browser. We don't track you, and we don't sell data. The only server call is the calculation itself, which is stateless.
Can I trust the repair cost estimates?
They're based on real part costs and localized labor rates, but every repair is different. Use the verdict as a starting point, then get a second quote if the numbers are close. We show you exactly how we calculated everything.
What about recalls?
If you provide a UPC, we check CPSC recall data. If there's an active recall, the verdict changes — manufacturers often repair recalled units for free. We never assume a recall exists without checking.
